Following the arrival of Muhammad Bin Qasim to the subcontinent in 712 A.D, Islam flourished at full pace. This marked the start of a successful Muslim rule, in South Asia, and later, over India. However, at the end of the Mughal rule, British Imperialism took over the subcontinent, thus beginning their exploitation. During this phase, the British raised sixteen ordnance factories prior to World War II to foil strategic threats posed to their occupation. With the partition, the formation of Pakistan, the new state had no arms and ammunition manufacturing facilities. This created the need to have arms and ammunition for the new army, in order to protect the state.

The Pakistan Ordnance Factories, was thus formed, manufacturing conventional arms & ammo of international standards. POF Board headquarter is at Wah Cantt. As of now, POF manufactures commercial explosives, hunting ammunition, brass, copper and aluminum ingots, extrusions, and sections for non-military applications.
